This mushroom normally lives as a parasite in a certain type of caterpillar and utilises it completely. Composition:

The Chinese caterpillar fungus contains on average 6.1 % water, 15.2 % crude protein, 2 % fat and 76.7 % carbohydrates. The protein in the mushroom provides high-quality amino acids. Its fat consists of 0.58 % saturated fatty acids and 99.42 % unsaturated fatty acids, including oleic acid and linoleic acid. Chinese caterpillar fungus also contains uracil, a known component of ribonucleic acid, as well as adenine and its derivative, adenosine.
